The artist

I’ve been painting for many years and have two studios – one in the UK and one in France.  My work tends to be influenced by where I am painting. The light in the South of France, the natural colours of the countryside and the ambience all have an effect on my mood and this mood is reflected in my painting.  In England my inspiration comes from observing local people and the changing seasons.

I love exploring abstract shapes that represent either my vision of what is around me or simply the moods and feelings that flow onto the canvas.

I’m always learning and have attended a wide range of courses to expand, from private tuition to Central St.Martins courses in both Expressive and Abstract painting. I’m not tied to a single media and love exploring new techniques, my paintings use oils, acrylic and pastels.

I feel that I have created a good picture when viewers want to look deeply into the painting and find interpretations of their own.

My grandfather painted and I grew up with his oil paintings on the walls and my mother encouraging me to be creative and original.

I’ve studied the Old Masters to learn appreciation of good paintings and art runs in my family with my sister and nephew both following careers in art.

Painting allows me to express my joy in the world and capture the energy that all living things possess.  I love to have visually interesting things around me – taking them from reality to a new perception is not only very satisfying – but also fun!
